phew!
A nation of sheep begets a government of wolves

Wealthy Politicians

They administer your country and from time to time ask for your votes so that they can remain in power. They claim to possess extraordinary skills and talent and as such clamor for higher pay from the public. In return you’d get some tiny amount in the form of so-called offset packages or shares which are not able to last you within a month. During the last GE2006 please remember that you drew that money from the teller machines just moments before you voted. Now here comes the pain:These ministerial payhikes are virtually FIVE times more than what the President of United States is currently drawing. The Prime Minister of Britain gets around a quarter of a million, which is largely even lower. Mr Wang commented:

Did you know? For the price of one Lee Hsien Loong, we could afford to hire :

(1) one US President;
(2) one UK Prime Minister;
(3) one Japanese Prime Minister; AND
(4) one German Chancellor

AND have about half a million US dollars left over, to give away to charity.

Now what can you do about it? Bugger it, buddy, there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.

A senior White House official on Tuesday admitted he was floored by the news that Singapore’s prime minister earned five times more than US President George W. Bush. “I’m going to emigrate and run for office in Singapore,” the official said on condition he be identified only as “a senior administration official who sits in disbelief after reading that story.”

But who decides who gets more paid? Themselves or the people? I believe Singaporeans should be able to refresh their senses and witness the nonsense these technocrats, not politicians because I have the tendency to believe true politicians are altruistic, are spewing. The only widening gap largely seen here is between the poor and the elites. You voted them to power. You should also vote to decide who gets paid more or none at all. The money you’d get each year from these progress packages and its excesses are yours to begin with. Change that old cellphone and in fact change every year if you like. The keyword here is splurge. And no one is going to stop you. Ditto for your CPF funds.

On the flipside do all you can to reject this absurd payhike proposition. Even Nobel prize winners do not cry for more heftier pay. And none of them is even a contender. Talk about extraordinariness. Their greed, self-importance and arrogance are bursting at the seams.

How much more to satisfy their need? And in the name of goodness why do they need MORE? I do not believe they require more and in fact I support any notions that their salaries should be pegged to quality leaders of the world. Now where do we go from here or do we simply allow power to go unchecked? The world doesn’t need wealthy politicians to make this world a better place but honest people who are willing to help without asking for much. Why pay so much when you get only part of their thinking? When you consider democracy, it bears little value with regards to an efficient, effective government.

Power can drive men into a frenzy. Lust for more and incorruptible reign. Lord Acton once said:

Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.
